The surroundings of the Hacienda San Francisco offer captivating places for those who search for a relaxing vacation and anti-stress activities, as well as those looking for adventure and activity in the outdoors.

Its strategic location supplies a view of a variety of cultures that co-exist in Ecuador. Just a few kilometers away from the hacienda is the Chota Valley, primarily inhabited by African Ecuadorians, who live in mud houses and delight us with tropical music, dance, and drums.

The hacienda is also close to Chachimbiro, renowned for its volcanic thermal waters containing therapeutic properties.

Sure to delight is a visit to Pablo Arenas, a colonial-style village located in the mountains with a sweeping view of the Chota Valley.

Fascinating is a walk to the sugar-cane mills (traditional factories) to learn about the artisanal methods used in the production of brown sugar and in alcohol distillation.

Two hours via route to the coast is the closest beach to the highlands, “Las Peñas” in the province of Esmeraldas, passing Lita and other voluminous rivers.

And just an hour away is the city of Otavalo, internationally renowned for its indigenous artesania.
