The Andes by Train

A train ride in Ecuador is an unforgettable experience. Today there are still many train journeys and routes that can be enjoyed in this country which are mostly run as tourist attractions. Amongst these is the Ibarra – Primer Paso route in the Imbabura Province, which runs into the basin of the River Mira passing through 18 tunnels constructed with shovel and pick and across a suspension bridge.

This is one of the main tourist attractions in the sierra serving both national and international passengers.

Around a hundred people can travel on the roof of the wagon, making this trip an unforgettable adventure full of emotion. Germans, Spanish, Dutch, French, British, Italians, North Americans and other nationalities, experience first hand this great engineering feat, constructed at the start of the last century.
